{"id":1397,"date":"2015-11-18T01:52:46","date_gmt":"2015-11-18T00:52:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/loginlublin.pl\/?p=1397&#038;lang=en"},"modified":"2016-06-09T11:16:51","modified_gmt":"2016-06-09T09:16:51","slug":"the-lofty-knight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/loginlublin.pl\/en\/the-lofty-knight\/","title":{"rendered":"The Lofty Knight"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"lead lead-ramka\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>A Man of Glory<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Have you wondered who is this hero on the monument which centers Lublin?<\/strong> It is J\u00f3zef Pi\u0142sudski: a Polish statesman; Chief of State (1918\u201322), <strong>&#8220;First Marshal of Poland&#8221;<\/strong> (from 1920), de facto leader (1926\u201335) of the Second Polish Republic, and a Minister of Military Affairs.\u00a0On the 12<sup>th<\/sup> of May, which marks his death in 1935, yearly \u00a0Lublin commemorates him as it befits great leaders.\u00a0The Poles revere him for being the one who re-existed Poland after being absent from the map for 123 years being divided between Russia, Austria and Prussia, and hence for creating the Second Republic of Poland in 1918.\u00a0Among his numerous achievements, <strong>J\u00f3zef Pi\u0142sudski commanded the Polish forces between 1912-1921<\/strong>, \u00a0and fought in six border wars which shaped the current Poland. He battled the Soviet forces in many combats, and achieved that military marvel Miracle on the Vistula during the Battle for Warsaw.\u00a0His forces were about to lose for the Soviet, but then he regrouped them, surrounded five Soviet armies, routed them, and saved Poland again.\u00a0His importance exceeded Poland to Europe, where he affected the whole European political scene.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Between 1945 and 1989, the communists who ruled Poland avowed his name and achievements as taboos to be mentioned: this very figure was to be systematically wiped out from the history of the great Polish nation.\u00a0Yet,<strong> this country doesn\u2019t forget the fruits of her womb<\/strong>: as soon as communism collapsed in Poland (two years before it did in the former Soviet Union), bringing the hero back to the new generation\u2019s memory was a priority.\u00a0The City of Lublin erected this monument in November 10, 2001 with a cost of 300.000 PLN.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the right side of the, a quotation by Pi\u0142sudski which reads:\u00a0<strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cEvery Citizen Should Work Honestly For The Country With A Clear Sense Of Duty Not Waiting For Previleges And Awards.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In Polish:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201eKA\u017bDY OBYWATEL POWINIEN<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">UCZCIWIE DLA KRAJU PRACOWA\u0106<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Z SAMEGO POCZUCIA OBOWI\u0104ZKU<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">NIE OGL\u0104DAJ\u0104C SI\u0118<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">NA PRZYWILEJE I NAGRODY\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">J\u00f3zef Pi\u0142sudski<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>By:<em> Assef Salloom<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-1397\" data-postid=\"1397\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-1397 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!-- \/themify_builder_content -->\n<div class=\"ptb-search-container\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Man of Glory Have you wondered who is this hero on the monument which centers Lublin?
