Did you know that during the period of the Polish People’s Republic, the Truck Factory in Lublin produced FSC Lublin and FSC Żuk cars? Żuk was one of the symbols of the People’s Republic of Poland. In the 90s, the factory was bought by the Korean Daewoo concern.

Did you know that the PESEL number consists of 11 digits – includes the date of birth, consecutive number, gender symbol and a control number:

date of birth is included in the first six digits in the following order:
a. the last two digits of the year of birth,
b. month of birth with the coded age of birth, and
c. date of birth;
the centenary of birth is coded by adding to the number denoting the month of birth:
a. the number of 80 – in the case of people born in the years 1800-1899,
b. numbers 0 – in the case of people born in the years 1900-1999,
c. the number 20 – in the case of people born in the years 2000-2099;
single-digit numbers representing the year, month or day are preceded by the digit “0”, subject to the principle set out in point 2;
a person’s consecutive number is included in the seventh to tenth digits, with the last digit of the sequence number containing the gender designation: an even digit (including “0”) for women, and an odd digit for men;
the eleventh digit is a check number. This digit enables electronic control of the correctness of the assigned identification number.

It means, that the recipe for a dish with the adjective “lubelski” is protected and there are only a few streets in the entire city where this delicacy is produced. The ordinary cebularz, however, can be produced everywhere, provided that it is not presented as a regional certified product.

Did you know that in more than half of the European Union countries Good Friday is a statutory holiday? Citizens of Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Spain, Germany, Portugal and Sweden do not go to work on the second day of the Easter Triduum. And in Poland – both Maundy Thursday and Good Friday – are ordinary working days.

Did know that even 20% of Lublin’s residents are students? Among cultural life’s enriching and appearing of hundreds of student discounts, it has its impact on the bus timetable. In summer, when students come back home for the vacation, the city traffic changes completely!

Did you know about the popular legend of the devil’s handprint? It is believed, that long time ago some corrupted judges resolved a case between a poor woman and a noble for the benefit of the latter. At night, devils came to the court and changed the decision for a fair one. After that, a burnt handprint was left on the court table. The judges of Lublin bore the punishment and the table is in the castle of Lublin now, available for everyone willing to see it.
