Did you know that there is a so-called “Lublin Civic Budget”? The Civic Budget, also known as the participatory budget, is a part of our city’s budget that is decided directly by the inhabitants. How does it work?
First, in June-July, the residents themselves submit projects they want to be implemented in the city: construction of a bicycle path, street lighting, repair of a pavement, construction of a playground, support for cultural institutions, etc., and then, by voting, decide which of the reported initiatives will receive funding from city budget funds. Simple as that. You, as a foreigner living in Lublin, can also take part in it. As long as you are registered in Lublin, you can both submit your project and vote for one of the submitted initiatives. Let’s go – the city is our common home. Details here .

A few words about a modernist architecture in Lublin
In Lublin, there are some fantastic examples of post-war modernist architecture, which you have probably seen, but you have never thought of them as the works of art. In our opinion, these are the key examples of architecture of this character in Lublin:
- Chatka Żaka, or rather Social-Service House – was built in the years 1962-1965. Incredibly beautiful pictures of Chatka Żaka from the time of its opening can be found on the ‘Modernism in Lublin’ blog www.modernizmwlublinie.blogspot.com
- Bus Station in Lublin, in Tysiąclecia Alley (completed in 1968) – is worth to stop and take a look at it and old photographs which depict the building – a glazed skeleton makes impression modernizmwlublinie.blogspot.com
- LSM district as the whole – district was built on so-called Sunny Hills (pl.Słoneczne Wzgórza),since 1957.It is a unique example of urban planning. It consists of Mickiewicza, Słowackiego, Piastowskiego, Krasińskiego, Konopnickiej, Prusa and Sienkiewicza estates. Here you can read more about establishment of the district.
- Linearny System Ciągły (Continuous Linear System) is an architectural concept developed by Oskar Hansen and realized on Słowackiego estate in Lublin. It is worth to read the book by Filip Springer “Zaczyn” and go for a walk 😉
- Artistic Meetings and their heritage – from 1976, meetings of visual artists who created spatial forms in LSM estates and covered façades of blocks of flats with murals have been taking place in Lublin. The results of their work can still be partly admired on selected estates (you must see Pegasus on Krasińskiego estate!!!), while the documentation of activities was prepared by the Brain Damage Gallery bd.pl.

Antiquarian bookshops are places not only for bookworms and rare books hunters. You will find there also vinyl records, cassettes, CDs, and much more. In our view, Antykwariat Archiwum and ANTYKWARIAT LUBLIN are two of better-equipped antiquarian bookshops located in the center of Lublin. It is likely that you will find there something that fits your interests and in a good price.
