Some time ago, one of our virtual walk took place on the Old Town. Our next such a walk will be provided under the Old Town – Lublin’s Underground Route. The Underground Route is not a popular place to visit, that is why it is worth to get interested in it.
In the 16th century, Lublin was one of the greatest towns in Crown of Poland. Many crucial political events happened exactly in Lublin. These events were extremely vital for the contemporary Poland. These good old days were the reason for politics, farming and trade development in Lublin. Under the main part of the town people started building new cellars, vine magazines, halls and finally mazes. These cellars were used as granaries. Some legends say that Lublin underground were as wide as it had had the connections with Sandomierz. It was said that going by the underground cellars people could have gone through from one city to another. The underground is believed to have been used as dungeons and a prison.
Nowadays, Lublin’s Underground Route has been prepared for the visitors and tourists. The length of the route is around 300 metres. It takes around 45 minutes to walk through the cellars. The route has it’s beginning on the Crown Tribunal of the Old Town. The line provides through the cellars under the Old Town and finishes on the ruins of the Parish place. The walk contains the history from 8th to 16th century. The route hides many emotions, legends, the light and the darkness, visualisations and the dust of the old Lublin.
