When we say the word “city”, it is primarily associated with something: architecture, country, continent. And in order to know the city and discover it fully one must first meet with the locals. After all, they make tradition and city such as it is, without any hidden meanings, true and natural.

Today Lublin is home to about 340,000 people. They create this city. Thanks to them, there are various leisure facilities, hospitals, legal aid companies and others. You can meet quite different people here. Additionally, city is home to about 4 thousand foreigners. We wondered what are the points of view of newly arrived students from abroad about locals. Residents of Lublin, at a first glance, seemed to be very nice, slow, calm and balanced. All respondents almost unanimously said that the people here are very different – like everywhere else, they are quiet open, very active, sometimes there are sharp but always friendly.

That’s what 2nd year student of the Catholic University said about citizens: “There are no borders and limitations in communication in Lublin. Strangers can start a conversation at the bus stop, in the bus or in line at the store. There are a lot of smiling people here. Maybe it’s because society in Poland is very well maintained. “

Foreigners also noticed a few things concerning their polish classmates. Majority of respondents said that they were good accepted in university community. Of course, they stressed that this required a certain time, because still in order to became friends there is a need to study and live side by side. However, all emphasized that now they have many polish friends with whom they spend a lot of time, rest together and even prepare for exams. Many respondents expressed their opinion about not so rapid friendship with students from Poland because of the language barrier, but they argued that Poles are trying to understand and fully support them.

This is the opinion of 2nd year student: ” Poles are always ready to support. They are always open to you, there is no discrimination of my culture and my personality “

So that is how Lublin’s citizens were seen by foreigners. What will change (if it will be so) next year – we will see.
