Happy Birthday Cristofori
The fourth of May, marks the birthday of the inventor of the piano, the Italian Bartolomeo Cristofori (1655- 1731).
Thanks to this brilliant mind, the world has changed radically after his instrument. Do you imagine life without the Ninth Symphony by Beethoven, without those naughty pieces by Bach or without Chopin’s waltzes.
The surreal thing is that three of Cristofori’s hand-made pianos have survived till today: one is in the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the other is in the Museo Nazionale degli Strumenti Musicali in Rome and the third is in the Musikinstrumenten-Museum of Leipzig University. We bow our heads in respect and gratitude for this genius mind.
