Did you know that your driving license may not entitle you to drive a car in Poland? Check if you can get behind the wheel in Poland. Generally holders of a driving license issued outside the territory of the Republic of Poland can use their driving license in Poland for up to 6 months. What’s next? After your permanent or temporary stay in Poland lasts longer than 6 months – you have to exchange the foreign document for a Polish driving license. The mentioned situation concerns a document issued by a state that is a party to the Vienna Convention on the Road Traffic (a list of these states can be found here), but what about others? Can you drive a car in Poland if your driving license was issued by a country that has not signed the Vienna Convention? In this case, you can only sit behind the wheel if you have an international driving license in addition to your national driving license. Without such an additional document, which is usually issued for a period of up to 3 years, you do not have the right to drive a vehicle in Poland.
