JUNE’S GREEN DAYS

June is a “green” month not only because of nature color J

June 5thWorld Environment Day

The idea of the World Environment Day is to bring the human factor into the issue of environmental protection. The purpose of this day is to give the peoples of the world the opportunity to actively promote sustainable and equitable development, to help understand the fact that communities are the main driver of changing approaches to environmental issues and explain the usefulness of international partnerships to ensure a global prosperous future.

In 2020, the theme is biodiversity is a concern that is both urgent and existential. Recent events that the whole world faced with, from bushfires in Brazil, the United States, and Australia to locust infestations across East Africa to a global COVID -19 pandemic – demonstrate the interdependence of humans and the webs of life, in which they exist.

June 8th  – World Oceans Day

The purpose of the Day is to inform the public of the impact of human actions on the ocean, develop a worldwide movement of citizens for the ocean, and mobilize and unite the world’s population on a project for the sustainable management of the world’s oceans. The ocean is the cradle of life on planet Earth, 70% of which is covered with water. The world’s oceans are the heart of our planet. The oceans play a leading role in human daily life as they regulate the climate, feed millions of people, produce oxygen, and are home to a huge number of animals. The role of the oceans in climate regulation is system-forming, its waters are one of the main absorbers of carbon dioxide.

For 2020 World Oceans Day is growing the global movement to call on world leaders and population to protect 30% of our blue planet by 2030. This critical need has the title 30×30. Scientists from all over the world say that by safeguarding at least 30% of our ocean through a network of highly protected areas we can help ensure a healthy home for all!

June 17th – The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought

The aim of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is to promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification. This day offers a chance to recognize that land degradation neutrality is achievable through solving the problem, strong community involvement and co-operation at all levels.

In total, more than 1 billion hectares of land in the world are threatened by desertification. The causes and main factors of desertification are quite diverse. As a rule, desertification is caused by a combination of several factors, the joint action of which sharply worsens the environmental situation. In an area prone to desertification, the physical properties of soils deteriorate, vegetation dies, groundwater is polluted, biological productivity falls sharply, and, consequently, the ability of ecosystems to recover is undermined. Every minute the world degrades 10 hectares of soil; 23 hectares of land are deserted; carbon emissions increase by 6,150 tons; 16 people die of starvation, including 12 children.

Planet Earth is our common home. Therefore, nature protection days are a necessary steps to improve the condition of our “blue” planet. Each of us must do more to harmonize and improve the environment. Such simple things as cleaning up trash in your yard, not leaving trash after a picnic in a park, will help us at least partially keep our Earth clean. Together we can make the environment better!

The future of our planet depends on us!
