In this article I am going to tell you about the Night of Culture, unusual and astonishing event that is performed only in Lublin every year. The Night of Culture is Lublin’s exceptional event, in contrast with the Museum Night that takes place in every Polish city. May and June are specific months for calm life of Lublin. The Night of Culture, the Museum Night and Juvenalia Festival take place in Lublin during that time.
The Night of Culture is the distinctive feature of cultural recognition of Lublin. Its aim is to manifest unique charm of the city and present the variety of cultural initiatives and artistic programs. The main idea of this event is to open minds of city’s residents and guests for art and culture of Lublin. The program is prepared by professional artists and amateurs from Poland, Ukraine and Belarus. The admission to theatres, galleries, museums, and concert halls is free during the Night of Culture. All libraries, cultural Centers, cafés, clubs and other institutions are involved in the event. This special night features a variety of musical, artistic and theatre event. For the whole night visitors can take part in many cultural and art promotion events. Each public place in Lublin is spirited with culture and art on that very remarkable night. The uniqueness of this festival is to show unknown or forgotten streets and places.
The head of Musical Theater in Lublin Leszek Hadrian was the first person, who came up with the idea of The Night of Culture. He declared it to be a demonstration of culture. He thought that The Night of Culture was a great opportunity for Lublin to achieve the title of 2016 European Capital of Culture. Many artistic and community centers in the city have supported the idea of The Night of Culture.
Every year, during ten years, residents and guests of Lublin have had a unique chance to participate in this special event. The Night of Culture was established as an opportunity to show the culture of the city to the city.
Last year I had great opportunity to be the part of that night. The Night of Culture was like explosion of emotions, colours and energy for me. The feeling that I was sinking in multiplicity of events stayed with me the whole evening. There were so many really different events, performs, concerts that everyone could find something very special and interesting for himself. There was breathtaking Festival of Colours, really colourful event for those who want to feel life in different colours. Those who would like to see something new was unusual exhibition of lanterns that were made of old ladies’ dresses, on old Lublin streets. Some kind of roof was made from many umbrellas on the Plac po Farze in the old town. There was Open Air Cinema in the old town. There were a lot of different concerts around Lublin. Despite the fact that I am a foreigner, every single event that I visited, made me feel proud of Lublin.
As that night is really full of different events, you should plan your culture night before. It is impossible to visit every place and see everything. So, to get unforgettable impressions just read all information about the Night of Culture before the exact night. Decide what you really want to see. Sometimes it is required to make reservations of some places, so check before if the place that you would like to visit is not one of them. Then you will be able to get the full joy of the Night of Culture. And believe me, that special night is worth to be spend with your friends close to culture, music, colours and impressions.
